Small Groups

‘House groups’, ‘cell groups’, ‘care groups’, ‘cluster groups’; whatever different churches name them, the ‘small group’ is the working hub of any church.

At the moment there are thirteen such groups meeting around and about Ulverston at various times during the week. Each one is different in style depending on the makeup of the group, but they are all united in one aim, to go deeper in faith and be a safe place to explore life’s issues from a Christian perspective.

The idea is that we can get to know each other better in a small group, study the Bible, pray together and learn more about what it means to be a Christian. All that, and a large dollop of love, laughter, and all sorts of eating and social occasions thrown in for good measure. Small groups are where we really develop the idea of ‘church family’ caring for each other and working out our faith in practical ways, serving the church and hopefully, the community too.

If you are interested in joining a group or would like to know more, please speak to Mary or Peter Taylor

Children & Youth
To find out more about our activities for under 18’s, click here.

Our Toddler Group meets in the Parish Centre every Wednesday during term time, from 10 till 11.30 am.

During the morning the children can play with the wide variety of toys, puzzles and crafts, as well as enjoy a time of singing. There is an opportunity for the children to listen to a Bible story, and participate in a related craft activity.

The relaxed atmosphere allows parents and carers to chat over a cup of tea or coffee. Juice and biscuits are served for the children.

We hold men’s breakfasts once a month and find they are a great opportunity for men to get together on a Saturday morning, chat, enjoy a delicious fry-up and hear a talk about some aspect of our faith.

On the first Monday of each month we have a ‘Pint & Chat’ in the Old Friends on Soutergate. Join us from 8pm for some good conversation and friendship.

We also hold other men’s events throughout the year and groups attend weekends away.

Film Night
Film nights are held every three months, on a Friday evening at 6.30pm in the parish centre. This is a chance for all ladies, aged 18+, to have an informal get together, have a natter, enjoy some food (pizza), and watch a good film.

Women’s Weekend
Each year a group attend a women’s weekend to share their faith and be built up by each other.

Parish Fellowship
The Parish Fellowship consists of ladies of more mature years (but would welcome younger members!). Held on the first Wednesday of each month in the Parish Centre at 2pm; the meeting starts with a short service, followed by a speaker, on a variety of topics, and refreshments. We meet over the year with ladies groups from other churches for fellowship

Coffee & Chat
The Parish Church is open every Friday morning from 10-12 noon for Coffee & Chat. All ages are welcome to just pop in or stay for a while. Children are welcome and toys are available to keep them occupied!

Tea, coffee and refreshments are free.

On the second Friday of the month we have a five minute ‘Pause for Thought’, and every six week a lunch for all who care to come.

The Memorial Chapel in the church is available every Friday for anyone who wishes to come in and spend a while in quietness.

Creative Space
Held on the first Tuesday in the month, from 10 to 12 noon. Creative space is an informal gathering of people, where creative skills are shared with each other in a friendly open atmosphere. Each month we look at a different craft/skill.

Gardening Group
Meeting every Wednesday from 1:30pm in the Parish Church garden. Anyone is welcome, no gardening experience needed. Come along and help us as we keep the church garden looking beautiful.
