Children & Youth Provision

In Matthew 19:24 Jesus said; “Let the little children come to me and do not try to stop them, for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these” (New English Translation)

into churchJesus loved children during his time on earth and regularly encouraged his disciples to do the same. At Ulverston Parish Church we take his message seriously. We therefore work hard to welcome, encourage and disciple children and their families whatever stage in life they may be.

Children and Families Worker:

To coordinate all the various ministries associated with Children and Families, a full-time worker has been appointed to commence work on the 8th January 2018.

We are looking forward to welcoming Hannah Fishwick as our new Children and Families Worker. Hannah is originally from Northern Ireland, and has worked as a Primary School Teacher in Manchester and for the YMCA. She is committed to helping children and their families to know and follow Jesus, and has skills not only as a teacher, but also in drama and the creative arts. Hannah is married to Isaac, and lives in Dalton. “I am so thankful to have the opportunity to serve God in this way and I am very much looking forward to being a part of UPC and the Furness Deanery.”

Junior Church: Most children learn best through interactive sessions and we recognise that sitting still is not helpful for them, or their parents. So during our regular Sunday 10:30 service the children are welcomed into the Parish Centre to have their own Junior Church.

We have four groups, split by age. During our time together we use games, crafts, interactive stories and all sorts of other fun to help us explore God’s message.

Crèche: 0-3 years. The under 3’s are welcome to stay in the church service. We have a comfortable carpeted area with tables in the north aisle, and a crèche room with plenty of toys and sound system so that parents/carers can listen and take part in the service.

All Age Worship: God made us all equally able to worship him, and once a month we get together to do just that.
Every second Sunday of the month we shake up our 10:30 service to make it more interactive and engaging for all ages.

Toddler Group: Every Wednesday during term time we welcome parents and carers into our Toddler Group between 10:00 and 12:00 in the north aisle of the church.  Games, toys, snacks and friends await your little one. A hot drinks and possible new friends await you. There is a chance to learn more about he Christian faith through multi-sensory and interactive Bible stories. We also have termly toddler celebrations that give you and your toddler a chance to learn ore about God and celebrate with Him and others.

Primary Schools Work: Our partnership with Church Walk School means that we have an infant bible club and a junior lunch club. The infant group follows bible stories and explores them using crafts. The junior lunch club is focussed on ‘big questions’, where children are encouraged to consider the world around them and come to their own conclusions, whilst also learning what Christians believe. We also do regular assemblies in both Church Walk School and Sir John Barrow School, organise  Church visits and run lessons exploring different topics surrounding faith that fit into the national curriculum.

Any excuse for a Party! The Church calendar is packed full of celebrations and we love to make the most of them. Look out for our Light Parties at Halloween, Christmas Celebrations, Pancake Parties, Easter Celebrations and more to come.

VISION Youth and Schools work

VISION is the youth department of Ulverston Parish Church. Our vision is to see every young person explore the Christian faith, journey with it and respond to it.

Our values are:
Jesus in the centre
Equipped for life
Serve in our community
Understand the bible more
Step out in faith day by day.

VISION Energize Groups meet weekly on Tuesday evenings during term time. We look at key themes young people face and what the biblical perspective is.

There are 3 separate groups: Years 5-6 meet from 6~7pm. Years 7-9 and Years 10-13 meet from 7.3Opm.

Most of the groups meet in the Basement in the Parish Centre and there is a tuck shop and opportunities to play on the X Box, table tennis, pool and table football.

VISION H20 meets weekly in the Basement during the morning service at 10.30 am. It is for Years 7-9. We play games, discuss the bible and pray.

Once a term we have a social activity where young people are encouraged to “invite their friends to meet their friends”. We have been trampolining; bowling; canoeing; camping and lazerquest. At the end of every term we have a party with competitions, games and food.

EmpowerOnce a month we have EMPOWER, a Youth Service run by Ulverston Youth Ministries with inspiring teaching and worship. EMPOWER enables young people to be empowered in their walk with Jesus.

Every year we have a weekend away with other youth groups in the area. We also go to Soul Survivor, a Christian youth festival with young people from all over the diocese.

Secondary Schools Work:

Explore: Every Monday lunchtime at Ulverston Victoria High School we help run a Christian lunch club.

Big Questions: Every Wednesday lunchtime at UVHS we are involved in running a philosophy based lunch club for those who have questions about faith.

For more details on any of the above, contact Victoria Sekasi: Furness Network Youth Minister, The Journey.
